What is a blind drop box?

Why some sections let you submit information you cannot then read back.

Written by Tim Lea

Short answer: There is no blind drop box in the onboarding portal; if you can submit information to a section, you can always see and edit what you submitted.

What is a "blind drop box"?

Some tools let you send information into a form that you then cannot open again, so you cannot check what you typed or confirm it went through. That is sometimes called a blind drop box or a write-only submission.

The onboarding portal does not work this way. When the owner delegates a section to you, that grant always covers both viewing and editing the section's content together. There is no setup where you can write an answer but not read it back.

Why can I not see what I submitted?

If you cannot see your own answers in a section, it is not because the portal hid them from you. The most likely reasons are:

  1. You were never granted that section. Every teammate can see the status and completion percentage of all nine sections on the dashboard, including the two owner-only sections (Financials and Vision & Leadership). Those two always show as locked, with a "Never shared" or "Only you" chip, because they are permanently owner-only. If a section you filled in looks locked now, check whether your access to it changed.

  2. Your access was removed. There is no way for the owner to strip your access to just one section. The only confirmed way to remove a section grant is for the owner to remove you from the organisation entirely, which loses all your access, then re-invite you. If that has happened, you would lose the ability to open any section, including the answers you previously entered.

Note: The "assigned to {name}" label you see on a section is a temporary, session-only detail. It resets after a reload or on another device and falls back to showing the owner's avatar, even if you still hold access. That label resetting does not mean your access or your answers have changed.

An onboarding portal section open with previously submitted answers visible on screen, not hidden or blanked out.

Tip: If you are ever unsure whether you can still open a section you filled in, check the dashboard first. Sections you have access to are clickable; sections you do not are shown locked.
