Short answer: The owner sets up the firm and controls what teammates can see, teammates only work on the sections handed to them, and there is no admin self-service way to change your own role.
The roles
The portal recognises two kinds of person:
Owner. This is the person who created the firm (
org_owner). They set up the organisation, connect financials, complete the two owner-only sections, and decide which sections to hand to teammates.Teammate. Anyone else added to the portal. A teammate only opens the content of sections the owner has handed to them.
Note: "Adviser" is not a separate portal role. It is a label that comes from the person's role in Your Team (any role flagged as requiring a licensed financial adviser). It affects capacity and book-analysis figures in Optics & Finance, not what a person can click on in the portal.
What each role can see
Every teammate sees the status and completion percentage of all nine onboarding sections on the dashboard, including the two owner-only ones (Financials and Vision & Leadership). Those two are shown locked, with a chip like "Only you" or "Never shared". Teammates can only open the content of sections they have actually been granted.
Shared reference lists, like the Roles list and Document types list, are visible to any member.
How to change your role
There is no self-service option to change your own role in the portal. Role changes work like this:
Owner status is fixed to whoever created the firm.
A teammate's employment role (for example Adviser, Paraplanner) is set on the Your Team roster and can be updated there by anyone with access to that section.
What a teammate can access is controlled by the owner through delegation, not by a role setting the teammate can change themselves.
Tip: If you need different access to a section, ask your firm's owner to update the delegation from the delegate panel rather than looking for a role switch in your own account.
